First crafted in the 1860s by Ole Andreas Devold for fishermen and sailors, the Blaatrøie was made for life at sea — densely knitted to hold warmth close and withstand the elements.
More than 160 years later, the Blaatrøie still carries that same spirit.
This limited edition began with a collection of old Boy Scout patches, tucked away in a box at a childhood home on the northwest coast of Norway. Small tokens from places visited, skills learned and adventures had — the starting point for a Blaatrøie rooted in home and shaped by a life of travel.

The Blaatrøie Original
After several years in development, we are proud to finally reintroduce a timeless classic from the archives: the Blaatrøie Original.
First crafted in the 1860s by our original founder, Ole Andreas Devold, this sweater was designed to withstand the harshest elements at sea. Its distinctive, tightly knit, and water-repellent construction ensured warmth and protection against any weather, for fishermen, workers, and sailors alike.
Now, 160 years on, we have carefully recreated this iconic piece—tailored for modern life with a new unisex fit. Made from 100% superfine merino wool, it promises exceptional softness and breathability. Available in three styles—solid dark navy, off white, and an embroidered version as per the original design—the Blaatrøie Original is an icon reawakened.
